Question: What’s the best life insurance to get?
Answer: Just to briefly explain, There are two basic types of life insurance policies:
1. Term Insurance
2. Permanent Insurance
Term Insurance is pretty common and comes with a few variations; the most popular being Level Term Insurance which covers you for a predetermined amount at a fixed rate for a specific period like 1 yr, 10 yrs, 15, 20 or up to 30 years depending on the age limit set by the insurance company. For a lot of companies, you can get stand alone term insurance after age 18 and up to a 30 year term insurance if you’re at or under age 55!
Permanent Insurance will cover you for the rest of your life, which could be age 95 or 100 or even 121! Thus, permanent insurance is always more expensive than a term insurance because it will cover you at the same rate when you are 20 years old, 50 years old and even at 80 years old! Plus, it MUST pay at some time between now and the rest of your life.
The Guaranteed Universal life (GUL) is a type of permanent insurance. It is a top seller because it’s one of the least expensive of the permanent plans and it gives the option of keeping the policy till age 95, 100, 105, or 121 or surrendering the policy after 15, 20 or 25 years for up to 100% return of premium.
I call this the “partner plan policy” ( also called Sou-sou, susu, sol, etc.) where you can take the last draw EITHER AFTER 20 years or 25 years if you wish.
In addition, if you get a Critical illness, chronic illness or terminal illness and don’t die, you can get all or a significant portion of the amount you are insured for. If you die during the life of the policy, your beneficiary gets ALL that money TAX FREE!
The Indexed Universal Life (IUL) and the Whole life are other types of permanent plans with similar benefits and they also allow you to withdraw/ borrow against the cash value of the policy in the long term WITHOUT surrendering the policy.

Term and Permanent, will provide MONEY to replace your income in case of death and for most, you will be able to get MONEY even if you do not die but you get a critical illness such as Cancer, Heart attack, Stroke; chronic illness such as one that causes inability to perform any 2 of the 6 activities of daily living, short term or long term memory loss or a terminal illness.
